The University of Derby has teamed up with Derby County Football Club Women to offer an amazing SCHOLARSHIP.
Three full scholarships are available for women starting the course in 2023. The programme offers students the opportunity to enhance their playing career, playing for Derby County Women and the University’s football team, whilst studying and gaining the essential skills required for a job in sports media - with a place on the only Football Journalism degree in the UK. In addition, the scholarships will cover the full cost of the student’s tuition fees.
In 2018, Derby County FC Women and the University of Derby joined forces to announce a new exciting opportunity for talented female footballers to join the University’s scholarship programme. All whilst developing and maintaining their elite-level footballing aspirations through playing for the Ewe Rams in the club's First Team and Under 20s Development Squad under the guidance of our UEFA A and UEFA B licensed coaching team.
Since then, scholars like Olivia Fox, Lucy Copeland, Eleanor Humphrey and Ella Hilliard have all benefitted from the programme: playing for the Ewe Rams and the University of Derby Women’s Football Squad under the guidance of Derby County FC Women First Team Coach Mark Russell.

The players have access to the best facilities on offer at both the University and Derby County. Ella Hilliard has become a frequent fixture in the first-team squad this season (2022/2023), making over ten first-team appearances. Whilst Eleanor Humphrey is making waves in the Ewe Rams U20s squad.
This is alongside their studies on the University’s one-of-a-kind Football Journalism course.

Entry to the scholarship programme is subject to an application process that will assess your eligibility based on meeting the educational entry-level course requirements and demonstrating that your footballing ability is at the required level to secure a place within either Derby County Football Club Women’s First Team or Under 20s Development Team Squad.
