In 2018 Derby County FC Women and Derby University joined forces to launch a unique and exciting opportunity for up to 3 x football players per season / educational year, to secure a dual pathway career by earning a full scholarship degree in Football Journalism from Derby University whilst also playing for Derby County FC Women.

 

Each Scholarship is worth £28,000 with course fees paid in full, and will see you join the UK’s only accredited Football Journalism course, ranked in the Top 20 for Best Journalism Course in the UK by the Guardian.

You will also join Derby County FC Women, playing in either the clubs First Team or Under 20’s Development squads under the guidance of our UEFA ‘A’ and ‘B’ Licence coaching team. In addition to that you will play for the Derby University Women’s Football Squad under the guidance of UEFA ‘A’ licence Head Coach, Graham Abercrombie, collectively having access to the best facilities on offer at both the University and Derby County.

Entry is subject to an application process that will assess if you are eligible for the Scholarship by firstly meeting educational entry level course requirements and secondly demonstrating that you footballing ability is at the required level to secure a place within either Derby County FC Women’s First team or U20’s Development team squads.

Join the next generation of talented football journalists as they embark on their journeys to major tournaments across Europe and press boxes up and down the country.

With the course running since 2016, the UoD Footy Journos have covered the UEFA 2017 Women’s Euros from the Netherlands, the UEFA U-17 Euros, the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

We aim to provide regular reports, interviews, videos and news on our own site here but also produce for various media outlets including the Manchester Evening News, Football London, TheFA.Com and top clubs such as Manchester City and Arsenal.

In addition, we also aim to combine student enthusiasm and professional access with a will to develop respectful, hard-working journalistic stars of the future.
