Griffiths wins October FAWNL Manager of the Month Award

Derby County Women’s Manager Sam Griffiths has been rewarded for her side’s unbeaten run by being named the FA Women’s National League Northern Division Manager of the Month for October.

The Ewe Rams Boss has led her side to four victories and a draw during October, whilst the club are also currently on a 9 game unbeaten streak, that includes a East Midlands derby day win at the start of the month.

Speaking to DCFCW Media, Sam was delighted to win the award but quick to praise the collective effort of the group.

Sam said “I’m really pleased to be recognised as Manager of the Month and whilst I’ve got the recognition, its a team effort and we wouldn’t be getting these rewards without the commitment and desire of the group and staff.

“It’s been a rough old couple of months for the club on the whole but we’ve all knuckled down together and not only have the staff and players worked hard, the togetherness of our fans and partners during these times, shows what a special club we are.

“My staff are amazing and I couldn’t ask to work with a better group but we can only do so much, its the players on the pitch, once they have crossed that white line, that have to put into practise the development we are aiming for, so this award is as much for them as it is for me.

“Our challenge is to not rest on our laurels but to push on further, on the field from the players and coaches, as well as off the field and we know each and everyone of us can play our part.”

Chief Executive Duncan Gibb was also full of praise for the Ewe Rams Boss and said “This is richly deserved and I couldn’t be happier for Sam for all the hard work she puts in.

“We all know that it takes a team effort to win these awards, but it also needs a leader who will make the hard decisions, develop the playing ethos and then get that put across to a group.

“That is Sam all over and it has been a tough couple of months for us off the pitch. However, that doggedness has seeped into the squad and everyone wants to play for her and win for her, and that has shown with winning the October Manager of the Month Award."
