Emelia Wilson Makes Ewe Rams Move

Derby County Women have boosted their squad with the addition of Emelia Wilson from fellow FA National League Northern Division side Loughborough Lightning.

The young midfielder makes the move across the East Midlands and will go straight into the squad to face Middlesbrough Women on Sunday where she is hoping to play her part in keeping the Ewe Rams out in front, ahead of the chasing pack.

Wilson said “I’m really excited to be joining Derby County Women and I’m looking forward to getting out on the pitch and helping to contribute to what is already a really strong squad.

“Its exciting to be amongst the calibre of players in this squad, they have real quality in the side and I feel up for the challenge of joining and hope to make an impact and continue to keep them at the top of the table.

“It’s never easy moving on from another club and though it was a short spell, it was very enjoyable with Loughborough Lightning and I’m still here studying so I’ll be keeping an eye on there results and hoping they do really well.

“However, now my focus is working hard to get on the pitch as much as possible. The facilities here are fantastic and its a club that is geared up to go higher and hopefully that will be this season.”

The midfielder joined Loughborough Lightning this season, where she attends the University on a Sports Scholarship and Ewe Rams Boss Sam Griffiths was delighted to add Emelia to the squad as they gear up for an important second period of the season

Griffiths said “We’re really pleased to add Emelia to our squad, she is a very talented midfielder and we’ve been monitoring her for a while and keeping an eye on how she was getting on at Loughborough.

“We’ve managed this season to keep relatively injury free and in previous seasons we’ve added to our squad earlier than we have this season but we felt now was the right time to freshen it up and with injuries and covid always on our minds, that added extra quality will help us no end.

“In Emelia, we are getting a young player who is very comfortable on the ball and we think she’ll fit nicely into our style of play. She doesn’t panic under pressure and has that quality that belies her age. She’s a very exciting prospect and delighted to have her join us.”

The Ewe Rams are back in action on Sunday as they face Middlesbrough in the FAWNL Northern Division with Emelia going straight into the squad.
